Make Money With This Side Hustle: Flipping Domain Names For Profit

The way to make this work best is to buy a recently expired domain name in a popular niche that still has a high number of backlinks leading to it, has high domain authority, and a fair market value of at least a few hundred dollars. If you buy a name for $9 – $10 and sell it for $50 to $100, that’s quite a nice return on your investment, with only a few minutes of “work” involved.

Here is what you need to know…

My best source for finding good domain names that expired within the past 60 to 90 days is ExpiredDomains.net. It’s pretty easy to sign up for a free account, which is all you’ll need.

Enter a search term such as “wellness,” “crypto,” “forex,” or whatever keyword you like. If I need inspiration to help me find potential domain keywords, I like to use the free version of Neil Patel’s Ubersuggest.

Once you’re logged into ExpiredDomains.net, set your filters for:

  • only .com
  • no numbers
  • no hyphens
  • allow deleted domains
  • show only available domains, and
  • only new for the last 30, 60 or 90 days

To find the ones with the highest domain authority, I try searching, alternatively, for:

  • only with Dmoz
  • only with Yaca, and
  • only with Alexa Rank.

Another good search is to ask for at least 1,000 backlinks. If I don’t find any I with that parameter, then I reduce my backlink number to 500, or lower, etc.

Here is a video that shows you in detail how I use the ExpiredDomains.net website…

When I find a domain name that’s available and seems like a good prospect to flip for a profit, I use several tools to get a clearer picture of whether they’re really worth the investment.

There is a good domain authority checker at: https://websiteseochecker.com/domain-authority-checker. You only need to check a CAPTCHA box to use it for free.

Estibot shows fair market value (don’t use the godaddy value estimator, as I find their numbers are way too unrealistically high). Estibot allows two free searches per person per day.
Here’s a kind of gray-hat tip that might save you money: If you use Tor Browser, you might be able to fool Estibot into thinking you’re somebody different.

After you have found a domain that’s available and looks valuable, you can register it for less money than most registrars via NameCheap. Because it’s widely used, and it’s easy to sign up for a free account, NameCheap is almost as good as Godaddy when it comes to transferring ownership to your new purchaser.

To find a buyer for your new domain, you could pay to advertise it on Flippa, but first I’d try selling it in one of the Domain Name Buying and Selling Groups on Facebook.

That’s a condensed version of the process I use to make money flipping domains. For a more detailed analysis, Bobby D sells a domain flipping course that’s amazingly priced at just one fungola. (And yes, I may earn a commission if you buy through my link, but it won’t cost you any extra.) It’s called “Get Domains” and it teaches you how to turn a $9 investment into a $149 return.

Happy Flipping!
Robert
